Members absent: David Papiez, Bill Willey
Non-members present: Jim Thackery and Jan Roeser, Idaho Dept. of Labor.
Presiding: Jonne Hower Jonne called the meeting to order at 4:05 pm. She reported that David Papiez was out of town and unable to attend the meeting. She welcomed guests Jim Thackery and Jan Roeser. The minutes of the April 23, 2014, VCEDC meeting were approved as written. Treasurer Rob Terry provided the Financial Report (see June financials).
Idaho Department of Labor Update: Don introduced Jim Thackery and Jan Roeser, Idaho Department of Labor. Jan Roeser provided a regional economic report and Jim Thackery provided a regional labor and unemployment report (Dept Labor Presentation.) The main points included:
- 65 and older population is expected to increase in Valley County, Idaho, and nationally
- 2013 showed improved GPD, however, the first quarter of 2014 showed a decrease
- There was move improvement in per capita income in Valley County for 2011 and 2012 than in the state of Idaho.
Project and Subcommittee Updates
- VCEDC Website Update – Jonne noted that the redirect to the VCEDC was working correctly.
- Testimonials – Karla reported she and David will meet soon to work on testimonials from last winter’s Small Business Fair and New Business Plan competition. These will be added to the website.
- Marketing – Jonne reported that Sherry, Cami, and she met to discuss development of materials to be used at the Payette River Games. However, due to time constraints, nothing was produced for that event. Developing the “message” or theme is an item that can be added to the Strategic Plan update.
- Incorporation and Tax Exempt Status – Jonne reported that David indicated he had received no update from the IRS on VCEDC 501 (c) 3 application.
- Affordable Housing Review Sherry reported The Springs Apartment complex in McCall said they would, if requested by VCEDC and others, conduct a market survey to determine if additional housing was needed. Karla moved and Don seconded a motion to request The Springs conduct the market study. Motion approved. Sherry would draft a letter for discussion with David.
VCEDC Strategic Plan: Jonne reported that David suggested we all review, the current Strategic Plan to prepare for a discussion and revision of it during the July VCEDC meeting. the Strategic Plan in order to develop the 2015 Strategic Plan. Round Table, Calendar & Public Input
- Sherry reported the Greater McCall Area Chamber of Commerce had developed a branding strategy that was available for use by any entity ion Valley Count.
- Cami reported the Huckleberry Festival will be August 9, 2014 in Donnelley.
- Scotty reported Cascade’s Four Summit Challenge will be July 26. He also reported there will be a “gravel grinder” or mountain bike ride from Cascade planned for September 6. Riders will leave from the Cascade American Legion Hall and bike through the Boise and Payette national forests for approximately a 72 mile round trip.
- The next VCEDC meeting will be July 23, 2014 at 4:00 pm, at Cascade City Hall. The agenda will focus on developing a 2015 Strategic Plan.
- There was no public input
