David called the meeting to order at 4:02 pm and welcomed guests and members.
Secretary’s & Treasurer’s Reports
The minutes of the May 7, 2015 meeting were approved. There was no Treasurer’s Report. Following discussion regarding Biz Week 2015 and the City of McCall’s agreement to contribute $250, the Council agreed to send an invoice to McCall.
Sub-Committees and Focus Areas
- Executive Committee
- Jonne nominated and Cami seconded the nomination of Sherry as interim President. Sherry was unanimously elected to fill the remainder of David’s term. David presented Sherry with a binder containing the Council’s official records.
- Sherry shared her vision of the Council’s role and relationship with the America’s Best Community’s competition and mentioned that she would step down as President of the McCall Area Chamber of Commerce.
- Her points included:
- Together we will thrive.
- Continue the affordable housing conversation and broaden the conversation to include the rel estate community.
- Publish a county-wide newsletter
- Sherry reported she had obtained a PO Box in McCall for the Council; Cami will have the second key. Sherry will become the legal, registered agent for the Council.
- Sherry reported she had submitted a grant request for $5,000 to the Laura Moore Cunningham Foundation for the Council’s work with the ABC effort.
- Following Council discussion Sherry will place an ad in the Star News seeking two additional members-at-large.
- Asset Development
- Sherry reported the ABC competition effort has retained a regional economic planner. The ABC “working committee” continues to meet weekly and rotates the meeting locations among New Meadows, McCall, Donnelly, and Cascade.
- Sherry would like the Council to determine common goals for affordable housing and technology infrastructure with the ABC effort.
- With respect to affordable housing, Cynda Herrick reported the County supports additional housing within the city limits of the three Valley County communities. She also suggested the Council could facilitate discussion between building contractors and the County’s larger employers, emphasizing that she understands rental units would be built, if occupancy could be guaranteed.
- Sector Development subcommittee
- Sherry reported she seeking a location to distribute the Council’s marketing brochure at the 2015 Payette River Games and requested Council members to help staff it.
- Local Entrepreneurship
- No activities to report.
- Import Substitution
- Scotty reported the Star News would be publishing a series of articles on geothermal development.
Round Table, Calendar & Public Input
- David reported the city of McCall would be seeking a letter of support from the Council for a grant they were pursuing.
- The Council sincerely thanked David for his leadership of the Council and wished him well during his upcoming law school experience.
